ACUF maintains living cultures of algae in liquid or on agar slants. To preserve the viability of strains, the cultures are periodically transferred to fresh culture media previously sterilized.
Presently, over 900 strains of living microalgae and cyanobacteria are cultivated in the ACUF collection. The culture strains were isolated mainly from terrestrial habitats, with a focus on thermo- acidic environments.
Most representative taxonomic groups presently held in collection
- About 400 strains of Cyanidiophyceae from different regions of America, Asia and Europe.
- A large number of green algae and cyanobacterial aeroterrestrial strains.

Algal cultures are available for research, but also for education and environmental applications. The availability of strains can not always be guaranteed. Cultures for commercial interests can be sent after a specific agreement under the regulations of University Federico II of Naples.
Strains are provided without any warranty, expressed or implied, including the durability of the material. Recipient assumes all legal responsibility from use, storage or disposal of the strains and agrees to not hold ACUF responsible for any resulting consequences. ACUF does not assume any responsibility against claims of third parties from environment, product or producer responsibility or other responsibility arising from the strains.

How to Order
Submit an order form to ACUF by e-mail directly from the website, fully completing each section. To know the price quotation of a strain, send an email, including strain names and numbers, quantities, details about your Institution or Company and your geographic provenance. Criteria for accepting new strains into the ACUF Collection.
Unialgal strains that the depositor considers to have some interesting properties, and that can be cultured under the conditions presently offered by ACUF, can be taken into account.
ACUF adheres to The MIRRI Best Practice Manual on Access and Benefit Sharing. Depositors must declare if the material to be deposited is within the scope of the Nagoya Protocol (NP).
